The American Association of University Women is a national organization that advances gender equity for women and girls through research, education and advocacy.
A key AAUW goal is to close the gender pay gap by 2030. Women working full time still earn only 80% of what men earn for similar work.

AAUW Los Alamos Strategic Plan
We advance gender equity for women and girls by
Supporting education:
Providing funding, essay evaluations, and candidate interviews for Tech Trek New Mexico,
Providing a UNM Los Alamos scholarship to a female who has returned to academic studies after a break of several years,
Encouraging UNM-LA students to apply for NCWSSL and providing financial assistance,
Judging and awarding cash prizes to elementary students at the Los Alamos annual Science Fair,
Enhancing our members’ awareness of national and international issues through book groups and the Great Decisions study group.
Supporting equity:
Working with Los Alamos League of Women Voters on candidate forums and voter guides,
Submitting opinion pieces to the local media on issues related to equity,
Offering to our members and the public, programs highlighting women’s issues and women’s accomplishments,
Lobbying at the state Roundhouse during Legislative sessions.
Service Project
For the past several years our service project purchased hundreds of pounds of fruit for distribution with the LA Cares food boxes. We filled about 100 bags which provide over 200 residents with fresh fruit for the holidays!
